9-Cither Viol... Sultana Thomas Perry..... FOR SALE NOW€3000
This instrument was Invented by Thomas Perry of no. 6 Angelsea road, Dublin in about 1750, although Richard Duke who it is believed influenced Perry or had worked with him at some point has an earlier dated instrument similar to a Quinton and a Perry but with a watch key mechanism, This is a copy I have made of a 1777 Cither Viol by Thomas Perry that I measured up in the museum in Kildare Street in 1978 and then later made a more thourough examination and recorded internal dimensions with a hacklinger guage, I can now get an exact copy of the machines on the original or I can use a watch key mecanisn or can use violin pegs, this one has lightweight machines and bent back like the originals,I first got interested in this isrtrument in 1978 when I was studying in Northern Renaissance instruments in Manchester, after measuring and drawing an outline of all the parts I set about making a mould which I did not use for 27 years when I finally got started, it took another 6 years to complete the first one, I can make many variations of this a 10 string like this one or an 8 string like a hardinger thats 4 playing and 4 sympathetic or a 6 string version that was in the victoria and Albert museum, or a 5 string violin viola, I am open for any chalenges, do you Want an Irish Hand Made instrument like this? contact me at pauldoyleinstruments.com and we can design an instrument just for you,email is pauldoyle38a@yahoo.com telephone 0035391566948 Mobile 0892126744,this is what they sound like on an original 1769 instrument played by Gerald Trimble who is leading the hunt with me to find out all about this wonderfull instrument,,, [more]

1-Thomas Perry Cittern English Guitar long scale SOLD€2950
Based on an Irish made Cittern or English guitar made in 1770 by Thomas Perry (the Irish Stradivari) in no 6 Anglsea street, Dublin. Though primarily a Notable Violin maker Perry was known to have made at least 300 of these instruments, this one is made with Eastern European Birds eye maple, back and sides, Spruce front, the neck of flamed Maple as on the original Perry,modern machines in place of the Machine heads that were used on all of the Irish Instruments at that time, can also supply My new engineered watch key machines made in Stainless Steel when availible and soon the original machines will be availible when fully designed, In a discussion with Jeremy Montagu in London he was of the opinion that the machines were invented in Ireland as the earliest ones were there long before they were used in London, John Preston was said to have invented the watch key mechanism and they were used on practically all instruments until the late 18 centuary and on a few made in Scotland in the late 19th centuary along with some Cither Viols.the sides were tapered from 63 at the neck down to 55 at the tailblock much like the 16c instruments from Italy, Want an instrument like this? contact me at pauldoyleinstruments.com and we can design and make an instrument just for you, or Phone 00353 091566948, 089212674 sorry this one is already sold to a customer who bought my recently finished short scale perry no. 3.[more]

2-Thomas Perry Cittern English Guitar..... FOR SALE NOW€2200
Based on a Cittern or English guitar made in 1790 by Thomas Perry (the Irish Stradivari) in no 6 Anglsea street, Dublin. Though primarily a Notable Violin maker Perry was known to have made at least 300 of these instruments, This is a modern version Made from Indian Rosewood back and sides and Cedar front unlike the original which was made from maple back and sides and spruce front, with Cedar front and a Mahogany 3 piece neck of nice woods and a long Scale length of 530 mm, similar to my William Gibson Cittern made in 1761, the original Perry is made from Sycamore back and sides and Spruce front, the sides were tapered from 63 at the neck down to 55 at the tailblock, much like the 16c instruments from Italy, so you could say this is a modern version to match the current trends in Instrument Building, Want an instrument like this? contact me at pauldoyleinstruments.com and we can design an instrument just for you, or Phone 00353 091566948,mobile 0892126744[more]

10-Cither Viol Sultana.Replica.started... BOOK IT NOW€5495

This Gamba was made in the workshop in 1998, there were several hanging around in Northern Renaissance Instruments in Manchester, so i had much time to do research there in the 1970's, THE EARLIER VIOLA DA GAMBA WERE CONSTRUCTED BY BENDING THE FLAT TOP ACROSS A CURVED BODY WITH 2 BARS FOR STABILITY, THEY HAD A SOUNDPOST LIKE THE MODERN VIOLIN AND CELLO, THE LATER 16TH CENTURY CARVED THE BODIES AND IN ENGLAND BENT THE MIDDLE STAVE TO GIVE SPRING TO THE TOP, THEY WERE MUCH LIGHTER BUILT THAN THE CELLO SO HAD A MORE DELICATE TONE,Want an instrument like this? contact me at pauldoyleinstruments.com and we can design an instrument just for you,[more]
